The project began in Six-Fours-les-Plages in 2025 after repeated practice sessions where learners could see that a word felt uneven but had no reliable way to decide whether the cause was pressure, slant, spacing or proportion.

Why the project was built
The original frustration was not a lack of calligraphy examples. There were already many alphabets to copy. The difficulty was that a learner could spend an evening repeating a page without knowing which movement was producing the inconsistency.
Atelier Ligne Claire was organised around diagnosis: show a small technical contrast, ask the learner to identify it, constrain the next exercise and provide a simple way to compare results. The project remains intentionally small so the material can stay focused on the mechanics of practice.
How material is reviewed
New exercises are checked for three things: whether the instruction isolates a real variable, whether the learner can observe the result without specialist judgment, and whether the exercise can be completed with a reasonable home practice setup.
